• CONSORTIUM – RESEARCH GROUPS

URJC-SOLAR Group of King Juan Carlos University

The group of the King Juan Carlos University participating in the proposal (URJC-SOLAR) is composed of staff in the areas of Chemical Engineering, Mechanical and Mechanical Engineering of Continuous Media and Structure Theory of the Department of Chemical, Energy and Mechanical Technology and the Department of Chemical and Environmental Technology of the URJC

This team has extensive experience in the development of new hydrogen production processes without CO2 emissions, such as catalytic decomposition of light hydrocarbons, dissociation of water by thermochemical cycles and photocatalytic water dissociation, together with the development of membrane reactors for H2 enrichment of biomass gasification. It also has an extensive experience in thermo-catalytic processes for obtaining advanced fuels from waste materials: residual lignocellulosic biomass and plastic wastes. There is also extensive experience in the development and characterisation of new materials for hydrogen storage, in particular MOF (Metal Organic Framework) type. In this sense, the group’s staff participates in numerous research lines for the development of Zeolytic materials and mesostructured silicas, for application in catalysis and adsorption processes or simply as material support for other applications. On the other hand, it should be noted that the URJC group has extensive experience in the generation of protective coatings that provide the necessary structural reliability to components working under service conditions that combine high temperature, chemical attack and wear or erosion for various industrial applications. In addition, they have extensive experience in advanced mechanical characterisation, massive materials and coatings, from nano scale to macro scale, over a wide experimental range ranging from static tests to very high deformation rate tests (bar Hopkinson), in a wide temperature range (from -196 °C to 1400 °C).
